The Stratosphere which anchors the North end of Las Vegas Blvd is usually the least expensive of the major resorts on the strip. If i knew the amenities you were interested in and the dates you were going to be in LV I could give you a much better idea. Take the time to add those details and I will see what I can come up with for you...

Rio is a very nice place and if you plan to be in LV on one of the rare nights they have rooms for $49/$59 I would jump all over that..This site has reviews/ratings/links to all LV hotel/casinos and is the best source of info on everything LV . That said, the rooms at Tuscany are even nicer and it's only a short walk from the middle of the strip. http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com

The Orleans is two miles off the strip down Tropicana, but, IMHO it's the best value...Check it out here. http://www.orleanscasino.com

If you want to stay right in the middle of the action, and don't mind paying for it, then take a look at Paris...At the South end of the Strip Luxor usually has the best deals going...

You will save yourselves a lot of money if you can be flexible on your dates. Sunday through Thursdays are cheaper than weekends. Avoid large conventions/events these drive room rates through the roof..

Later: Wish you would have given me a price range. A couple of suggestions-If you have a car, the Orleans($130) is only 2 miles from the strip, they do have a free shuttle to the Barbary Coast which is center strip, but a car would make it a lot more convenient for you..Same goes for the Stratosphere($114). Tuscany($158) might be your best bet, it's only a short walk to the strip and the rooms there are very nice(600sq ft)...Others-Luxor($200) Rio(($260) Paris($230) Ballys($170) Harrah's($200). I tried to check Barbary Coast but their web site was down, if you don't plan to have a car, the BC would be a great location, as it sits dead center of the LV strip, same with Ballys, great location...What I would do is hold my rooms, then keep looking for a better deal...IMHO these are all 3-4 star hotels, the prices pretty accurately reflect what you can expect in a room, with the exception of Orleans and Tuscany with those two you're getting more than your money's worth... If I can be of further help or if you have more questions, I will check back.

While the Rio is a great hotel it is slightly off strip. Stay to the northern end of the strip the farther south you go the higher the prices get, with the exception of the Imperial Palace right in the middle of the strip. Check out the Riviera with the Mardi Gras Party in the Sky or the New Frontier.

Depends on the day you're going. Weekdays you can often get a room for $49 at Rio Suites (huge rooom, almost like a suite), and then go to see Chippendales (which is also playing at the Rio)
