You are asking if any gift can be given without strings attached. I think stringless gifts can be given, and that these are the only true gifts... but that this is extremely rare.

There are others that believe that all gifts have strings attached, and that's o.k., that's the way it should be.

But really any true gift should be given with no strings attached otherwise its not a gift its a barter. (Maybe a unilateral barter but a barter nonetheless.)

when you give something to someone, you shouldn't expect anything from that person. Why?
--> because life's like this. No one says that you have to help anyone. IF you DO it, that means it was from the heart and what comes from the heart, it should be something that you were willing to do. But usually, people say thank you... that's just words right? what you really want is the same help in return, don't you? Actually it would be logical to be helped in return but not everyone can do it. But actually, helping others, isn't just a thing that human being has to do? Isn't this one of his duties? think about it ;)

Yes. All people do something in the hopes of getting something more more from it. Whether it be money or that intrinsic reward . A truly unselfish act is only possible by accident. We become happy by giving a child a toy or helping the poor. We get that "warm, fuzzy feeling" inside known as an intrinsic reward. It is more powerful than any reward given by others can ever be. Of course if we don't like that person very much then we might just give in order to receive.

Yes, we always expect something in return, but not necessarily from the recipient. We may give a gift simply in the expecation of feeling good about ourselves. Or we may give in expectation of a reward later on, even after death (whoo hoo, my generosity got me a get out of purgatory free card!) Some scientists theorize there are genetic reasons for altruistic behavior, but I think there's more to it than that.

Most of the time we do. It is like well, I did something for you, and it would be nice if you did something for me.... It really has to do with a selfish side in us. Now, that is not always the case. Sometimes we do not expect something to have in return.

When you give to someone, it should come from the heart. It means you care for that person in some way, and that is greater than receiving in any way.

No, never. If you give only hoping to get something in return, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Give with your heart and it makes you feel good, even when you get nothing back!

You should be giving out of love than wanting to get something back. It is greater to give than to receive. You are more blessed by giving.
