It is explained in the shop manual. IF YOU don't have one already, call a dealer. They will tell you how-to-do it, if they are a good dealership. I would suggest that if you are keeping the bike get a shop manual from the manufacturer, it is well worth it. Every motorcycle, car, van or truck that I've owned, that was one of the purchased items shortly after it came home. I still have all the manual though most of the cages are long gone.

Hi, Remove the left side panel first and with a wrench or long screw driver undo the negative connection. Next remove the right side panel underwhich there are two screw/bolts that you remove
to get at the positive connection, then you can pull the battery out.
If you think getting it out was fun, wait till you try to put it back in.
It helps alittle if you pull the starter solenoid off the plastic clips that hold it just to get it out of the way.

Here are a couple of additions to "george b"s answer.
--It might make it easier for you to unplug the 2 connectors to the fuse box and remove the battery box cover from the bike (or you can just let it hang there).
--"After" you unbolt the negative battery cable, remove the battery positive cable from the starter solenoid (L side of bike).
--Leave the cable attached to the battery. Slide the battery and cable out together.
--When installing the battery, with the + cable attached to the battery, slide the battery in while getting the + cable through the bike.
