Music sooths the savage beast.

Other than that--get busy with something for others. Your mind can not dwell on both happiness and sorrow for long.

Hi Brianna, what I do is think outside myself. Trust me I need ALOT of cheering up lately, but it seems the more I think about how I feel doesn't help. Put on your fav music, no sad stuff, eat something yummie, don't think about calories, take a bubble bath so bubbly that they spill over the side of the tub, create something with your hands, an art or a craft, and then donate an hour or two just making some cookies for an old neighbor or drop in the old folks home and take them some hard candies,,, Make sure you watch them all eat it, it is satisfying to nurture, you will feel good about yourself and will have a smile on your face in no time. Fake it until you make it, or, think it into being, whatever that saying is,,,it can work.

Strangely people often resist the very things that will cheer them up. People that need cheering up need to watch funny movies or dance. Don't say you don't feel like it, of course you don't. The point is to do something that is the opposite of how you feel. Research indicates that people who watch a movie with a pen clenched in their teeth (forcing them to be smiling) find the same movie much more enjoyable than people watching the same movie with a regular facial expression (not smiling). My point: Smile! It will make you feel better and by the way, it is the most attractive feature a person can display (again, according to research).

I think about the people who love me. I think about how well I have done with my children - that they have turned out to be caring and lovely people. I read about the lives of others because biographies and autobiographies help me define for myself what I consider to be important in life. I love a nice hot bubble bath with candles. A snuggle in the night from my lover makes me feel peaceful, desired and loved. Most of all, I remember the blessings I have and I try not to think about the things that have gone wrong because in the great scheme of life they are small stuff.
