I received an email from a classmate saying that both Brown vs. Board of Education and the affirmative action case are being challenged which seems unbelievable to me so I was wondering if anyone had more info on these upcoming cases or ideas on what we could do to stop it, if true.

Sort of... there's a case Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District that asks whether a school district can maintain "racial balance" at schools by factoring in race for school assignment. There's a similar case called Meredith v. Jefferson County Board of Education. No one is arguing that Brown v. Board should be overturned. In essence they're arguing how Brown should be applied.

See Newsweek dated 11/13/06. There is an informative article in there about affirmative action. It may also be on the website.

No. I oppose racism and sorts of discrimination regardless of the point. Affirmative action is the idea discrimination isn't incorrect; it fairly is largely that we've been concentrated on the incorrect races, genders and diverse demographics. that is a disgusting theory, and its time in our society is thankfully constrained - the performed u . s . a ., alongside with liberals, were souring hostile to the conception for some years. As for customary healthcare, it is going interior the distinctive course. In 2000, it wasn't even on the table, and in 2004, it develop proper right into a pipe dream. Now, it fairly is regulation - and the justices reported there have already lost the have self assurance of the in lots of circumstances used public with their partisan votes on Bush v Gore and electorate United. Obama does have the means to stack the bench, see you later because it isn't political suicide - and the further particular Justices prepare themselves to be partisan hacks, the less the in lots of circumstances used public will disapprove of the President really diluting their effect.

Not that I'm aware of, but there was a vote recently in Michigan on whether or not schools would be subject to affirmative action. The state decided that they should not be.

Affirmative action may be challenged on a constitutional basis, but so far as i know, no one is challenging or would challenge brown v board of education.
