Your wire is too thin...go for a heavier gauge wire and that will cure the problem.

Assuming DC voltage sources:
The energy from your source that goes into heating your electromagnet is given by P = I²R. Using the V=IR equation the power can be expressed as V²/R. Resistance R of a wire is proportional to its length and inversely proportional to its cross-sectional area. Limiting the heating effect so that the wires or insulations don't melt can be accomplished in two ways:
If you double the voltage you must use 4 times the length of wire., or you divide the diameter of the wire in half, resulting in 1/4 the resistivity.

The other way around the problem is to wind your coil in such a fashion that air can be readily circulated through it to carry away the heat it generates.
