Talk to the anesthesiologist. You could have an epidural or a spinal block. They could totally knock you out, but they prefer not to do that as there are increased risks. Also, you'd probably prefer to be awake to see your baby!

You have the option between an epidural and a spinal. But, I honestly don't know what the difference is- besides a spinal is more common for a c-section. I had a spinal for my c-section with my second and an epidural for my labor with my first. Neither gave me any problems. Granted you probably should be asking your doctor these questions- and should've asked a long time ago- typically they can make last minute changes if you need them. Ask about a spinal. The only other option is to put you all the way under... and that's not usually recommended.

it's either an epidural or spinal block. Maybe last time you didn't have a good anesthesiologist so it hurt. They don't like to put pregnant women under general anesthesia, it really affects the baby. My mother had to be put under with me and it took her longer than normal to recover, then she didn't realize when she woke up that she had a baby. Good luck!

the Dr told me when I had an emergency c-section that I was lucky I'd gotten the epidural because it hurts alot more with other local type pain relievers.

I would have looked into options months ago...you are scheduled tomorrow?! Nothing like waiting until the last minute for such an important question.
Call your doctor ASAP to discuss.

They could knock you out, talk to your doctor. They don't like to do that because of the effects on the baby.
