A CRT screen works by smashing an electron beam into phosphorous and the resultant energy we see as light. The beam scans between 60 and 100 times per second so the image is flickering all the time.

An LCD screen is backlit and the liquid crystal controls how much light gets through, this is much easier on the eye and the eye does not see the scan.

If you do a lot of computer work then an LCD screen is highly preferable. In some places they are a work place health and safety requirement.

I am no expert but I do not believe your vision is relevant in your case as long as it is accurately corrected when you are reading the screen.

Try a CRT Glare reducing screen first instead of spending the money on an LCD that you may not need,

yes lcd/plasma do reduce eye strain, or what u could do is get a screen filter from any computer shop.
this will really help with eye strain
