You have to try and narrow it down a bit first, which area of the uk are they from? Scotland, England, Wales Ireland. Once you know which country they are from then you need to find out which region they are in. There is no generic British accent and they can vary wildly from one to the other. For example does Ewan McGregor sound anything like Ralph Fiennes?? both are British but sound completely different. Once you've figured out the area just try and listen to and copy the accent as much as you can. Tape yourself speaking it out loud as you always sound very different than what you think you sound like from inside your had. You can also try going on to the bbc website and listening to their audio reports that will gove you a good basis to start from. Good luck.

There are a great many British accents,... depending on the region, class, and education of the 'speaker'. It will help to learn to mimic characters in foriegn films that feature roles from similar areas and social classes as the character you are playing.

Rent movies with British actors and mimic them. It worked for me when I was in a play that required a similar accent.

Yeah, rent movies. Hugh Grant movies. Then speed it up. And don't be so foppish.
And don't be afraid to just throw it out there. Make them believe it's an Englsih accent!
