Two correctional officers were killed by inmates in MD in 2006. Inmates are becoming more violent inside prison - nothing to do other than think of ways to kill CO's and other inmates. Some states may treat prisoners better than MD - others far worse.

A lot depends on the institution.
Seems to be a big business, as many states are contracting with private prison firms to build and operate prisons.
In some cases, the management is very good and in others, very poor.

On a whole, most prisons are a place where inmates get three squares a day, opportunity to exercise their mind and body, clean bed and television.

The biggest problem with prisons (in my opinion) is the lack of rehab.
Most of these jokers will return to a life of crime if they are released.
We Americans are only doing a disservice to our nation when we don't try to get the prisoner to turn their life around.

Why do you ask?
Are you planning on an extended stay?
If so, here's a tip: don't bend over in the shower if you drop the soap!

I assume you mean prisoners, treatment varies from state to state &the fed system. All must work recieve very little pay the average prsion wage is 17cents per hour. They buy their own hygenic supplies, and everything else but room and board are furnished, its better here thanin most countries

Prisons are treated very well, as are the people who design them, build them and work in them. Heck, it's almost it's own industry!
