the tub drain pops up. how do you take it off?

you can buy heavy duty drain cleaner at your hardware store...

You need to remove the 2 screws at the tub lever handle, pull the mechanism out and then the pop up drain should just pull out. Stuff a very wet rag into the upper lever hole to block the air off the plunge like heck out of the drain.
Good luck on that one. Oh and re-assemble in same order as you took apart.
If you cant get the drain lever to come out dont force it. re-aasmble and go on to plan b.
Plan b try to unscrew the pop-up inside the drain. You'll need good pliers for that

I have found that an orange citrus cleaner works well to clear bathroom drains. I run hot water into drain as much as possible and then add full strength orange cleaner and let it soak for a bit. Then hit drain with plunger or clothes hanger straightened out and it clears the clog well.
