Okay this is kinda weirs... i've had a baby before and never heard this. I was having some really bad back pains on saturday so i went in and the dr said that i was in the early stage of labor, and sent me home. He also said the my cervix was still at a 90 degree angle.. i am dialating and effacing but not much (1 cm) so does this mean that i am in labor? the dr said that my body has flipped the switch but not all the way on.. ( hes old) i am still having th aching in my back but not the shooting pains i was having. And my baby has become very active since then. So should i be expecting the baby ? or when should i expect the baby? how do i get some progress going withthis?? (39 wks)

I WOULD GO SEE ANOTHER DR EVEN THOUGH WHAT HE SAYS IS TRUE, WITH YOU BEEN 1CM DIALATING,IT IS ONLY EARLY STAGES, DONT RISK YOUR BUBS INSIDE, AS IT DOES SOUND LIKE THINGS ARE ONLY GOING TO START HAPPENING,JUST BECAUSE YOUR CERVIX IS 90 DEGREES, DOESNT MEAN YOU CAN GO INTO LABOUR WITH COMPLICATIONS, SO GO TO ANOTHER DR.

There's no telling. So many people get pain towards the end and think they are ready to go but I think some of it is wishful thinking. I know towards the end you are ready and whenever you get some pain you want it to be labor so bad you think it is. I went 12 days past my due date with my last one. Every doctors appointment they would say "I don't see you going much longer." Well they finally scheduled my induction on a Wednesday. That morning I started to have uncomfortable cramps but didn't know if it was labor. We were going to the hospital anyway so we just left early. I had gone from 3cm the day before to 7cm by the time I got to the hospital and 20 minutes later I was fully dilated. So it just depends on your body. You may have this back pain on and off until the time comes. I was 1 cm until I was 40 weeks and then 3 cm by 41 weeks.

This is called "Braxton Hicks" contractions. Some refer to it as 'false labour'. How exciting, but you still have a way to go. If you want to hurry things along, then walk, walk and walk some more. The coming and going of stronger contractions is nothing to worry about. Don't be embarrassed about getting checked often, even though this isn't your first, each time may be very different. Make sure you have a watch with a second hand. True labour contractions should last appx. 1 minute. Then time the minutes between. Pain does not always accompany the contractions, sometimes it is more of a pressure feel. Maybe like something quite heavy is sitting on you. Anyway, shower and pack if you haven't done it already, but eat light, just in case..

Getting there but still could be a little while. I had back ache pains about 4-5 days before my daughter was born. And full on contractions for 48 hrs before they considered me "miserable enough to keep" in the hospital. My contractions were strong and showing up, but they were not steady. I would go 7 mins, then 11 mins, then 4 mins, etc. Try to find a few somebodyies to take turn rubbing your back and do some squatting to get that little booger to move into place and get things rolling for you! Good luck!

It happen to me I had really bad back pain and that was the problem, but all the active movment get ready because its almost time try walking alot. Good Luck and god bless you

yea you will be having a baby soon. Thats how it usually starts lol. The back pains are also called "back labor" and that sucks lol. I had that with both of my boys so i know what you mean. Get ready to head to the hos at any time. Whenever your baby decides he or she is ready :)

Try to relax. (Easy for me to say, huh). I've known some women that have been dilated at 2 cm for almost 2 weeks, before they were admitted. Have you tried to take a warm bath or shower? In my natural childbirth classes, we were instructed to let the warm water hit our breast. The stimulation produces a natural pitocin which causes us to have contractions and dilate easier and sooner. Another practice we were taught, was if were going to breast feed, was to roll our nipples with our thumb and index finger to toughen our nipples. This also produces a natural pitocin in our body and causes us to go into labor easier. Good luck.

You are definitely in labor. Try sitting in a tub of water to soothe your back pains . I don't when you can expect the baby ,because it depends on how fast you progress.

I have had one child and I was very slow to become fully dilated - sounds a bit like you - it sounds totally gross but sex is the best way to go fully into labour - you don't have to go the full way but if you have an orgasm, you are very likely to bring labour on a bit more quickly. Good luck with it, and enjoy being a mum - it's totally amazing!

Best wishes,

Lucy

You're on your way.... it takes some longer to completely move into the full blown labor process. Just relax. You'll know if it's time yet or not... otherwise you'll just be wasting trips to the doctor 'cause he'll just keep sending you home..
