The trailer will be stored outside in northwestern Wisconsin and exposed to snow and cold weather.

Yes it is best to cover the trailer with a tarp, be sure to put something on the roof so the tarp stays away from touching the roof, it will allow airflow between the tarp and the roof and keep it from mildewing.

Travel Trailer Covers For Winter

I would suggest having the trailer about 5 in. securely off the ground, a tarp that is tied down around the body, a plastic sheet on top of that and a second tarp that is secured to the ground. You do not want any part to fly away, roll away, warp, rust or grow mold. Remember to seal your windows from any chance of water to grow mold, empty any pipes that would have water in it, your sewage tank, and before turn it off for the season get the engine serviced. You do not want any part of the engine to crack in the weather. Then make sure to wait about a week before using after the last snow fall, giving your engine time to "defrost". Take your time and make a check list for the years to come, so you may preserve your trailer. I pray that this helps you, and that your belongings will be kept.

Coving it is always better than not covering it. You can get plastic tarps pretty cheap compared to what a new roof can cost. Most people do try to find a place to store them during the winter.

try to cover it and place some sleepers across the top so the roof can breathe under the tarp.

I would cover it with a tarp to protect it from the elements.
