I would like to replace my hard drive on my computer. I would like to put the information from my old hard drive onto my new hard drive, is there a way todo this? If you can't do this can you reinstall your XP back on your new hard drive?

You should be able to attatch the old hard drive as a seconday (or "slave") device in the IDE cable. You may have to alter the jumper switches on the back (near where the cable plugs in usually). If you don't have a spare cabld then you can always temporary attatch it instead fo your CD drive.

Then when you're up and running with your new hard drive as C: the old one will appear as something else, like D:

Then just drag and drop in windows explorer

My method is reverse to mrdanman@sbcglobal.net above, I prefer to get the new OS running on the new drive before copying stuff off the old one, in case I do a format by mistake. Either way always COPY and don't MOVE them over so you've got the "originals" on the old disk if you do make an error.

Just hook up the new one in the computer, and copy all the information from the old one to the new one. Then remove the old one and install an OS on the new one!

i'm fairly constructive that as quickly as a stressful force is reformatted, some archives could be extracted as long as no longer something is written over it, nonetheless basically via expert extraction procedures. There certainly exists CDs which properly write a million's to each sign up of the stressful force - those disks will injury any archives on your stressful force. i'm no longer thoroughly constructive the place you will discover one nonetheless. As i've got in no way been on your place.
