The US is a strong, prosperous country. If the desire was there to take ove the world as other countries have throughout time, it could potentially be done. The thing is - the desire isn't there. The US runs on the principles of democracy, free enterprise, and freedoms. If the US took over the world, it would become either a totalitarian society or a dictatorship, two things we have looked down upon for decades. The United States is already one of the most prosperous countries in the world, one which believes in free enterprise [having a rich, poor, and middle class - much like a social hierarchy]. If the US was so determined to become the most wealthy country in society, it would go against its principles [which date back to the Declaration of Independence] of free enterprise.

The mear thought is silly, my dear. Silly.

Sure, the US can try but it will mean our demise. Look at what happened to Rome, and what happened to the Mongols. They are nothing compared to what they used to be. There is an inherent problem with overstretching an army, that is dilution. It took hundreds of years to build Rome, but it fell in a moment. As soon as the submitted countries had a chance, they went and burned Rome. That's what happened when you rule with no conscience, with no respect, and disregard to the lives of those conquered. We wouldn't like to be ruled by a foreign power, neither do others. To force our ways on others is to ask for trouble in the future.

I see your point!!! Hmmmm...I think you're on to something, there. The Romans and Mongols have long been celebrated for their bloodletting-free societies, their ability to calm the unrest of those they conquered (using just strong words and threats to "throw the cow" in order to conquer, BTW). And Lord knows those societies are still around...

...oh, wait.
