I would like to learn about some famous pirates or pirate history or a good pirate film or anything that is interesting that i can use in my case study about the 'portrayal of the pirate in history'.

I saw a Discovery Channel program on real pirates of the Caribbean earlier this year around the time the movie came out. One of the more interesting things to me was that many of the pirates of the 17th century were buccaneers and privateers commisioned by the British government to wage war on the Spanish. The buccaneers got to legally keep a large share of the loot (after the government took its cut) and the British benefited from the theft or sinking of numerous Spanish ships without the expense of sending out their own navy.

Two famous pirates were Sir Richard Hawkins and Edward Teach (Blackbeard).
One of the best of all pirate movies was Captain Blood. It's an old movie but still reaadily available.
The book Captain Blood is a classic.

The only thing I know about the Pirates, is that they are a lousy baseball team based in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

well, society has polluted pirates, first of all they did NOT say arrg and stuff like that all the time, i used it but not like society says so, also they did not make people walk the plank, probably only when the crew did munite on their captain

the pirates of penzants ( i know it's not spelled right ) scrared the crap outta me when i was a kid at disneyland. that's the most i know !
