Well, it can be, but I think for a healthy family, there has to be conflict.
Our children grow and have their own personalities and not all personalitites match up well, or all human beings would be peaceful.
Children get to the point where they want to test their "I'm brave and I'm doing it", thing. That causes conflict with the parents who don't want their kids saying their going to do this or that. Parents want to keep the control, as they should.
Kids don't come with instruction books. We parents, just try and do our best, well, not all, but most. Sometimes we as parents aren't ready for the machoness in our kids and the I'll do whatever attitudes.
IF we let them have the attitude, then we fail to some degree as a good parent.
BUT kids should always be given the opportunity to voice their opinions, even though we not necessarily want to hear it. :-)

Growing up, kids always think they have it all figured out and their parents really DO have it figured out- kids don't like to be told what to do, so sometimes they'll turn down good advice just because of the source and parents tend to do the same. People learn better when they make their own mistakes than they do when someone else tells them.. it's the way it goes. So yea, friction is unavoidable.

it's been said that children and grandparents get along so well because they have a common enemy... so true.

Yes, it is. Because they are divided by a generation gap so what the child sees as good for him/her is seen as bad by the parents.

Also because the parents are more experienced, mature and know more but the child does not understand these.

The child will when he/she becomes a parent
