This sounds weird, but I've tried it and it works. Get a disposable aluminum pie plate (or you can use aluminum foil) put in a couple of tablespoons of baking soda. Pour in some boiling water and put in the silver. Leave it there for a couple of minutes and it should be shiny when you take it out.
