Why would the average person support republicans? Republicans believe in what is called the "trickle down effect", which is essentially giving tax breaks to the rich, and they believe that the money the rich save will trickle down to the poor - which we all know it doesn't. The democrats believe in tax breaks for the poor, so that more money can be put into the economy and make everyone a little richer - which it does.

So my question is, why would anyone who is not rich, support a republican?

they just hear something about taxes being raised and they panic before they realize it's not even their taxes, it's the taxes of those that make way more money than they do

also, I think a lot of people that were raised republican are still desperate to believe in the whole trickle-down economics theory....it's easier for them than questioning what they've been taught

I am white, 48 years old, married and Catholic. I am a republican because more of their beliefs mirror my own. I am a conservative. To prove the "trickle down" effect works all you have to do is look at to days economy. The Dow is at an all time high. Unemployment is at a minuscule 4.4%. Economists will tell you that is almost complete employment. I am not rich, far from it. Together my wife and I bring home approx. 50,000 a year. We drive a 1990 car. We rent an apartment and have to budget every dime we have. I am a republican because I am pro-life. I can see where certain abortions should be allowed, but complete "unfettered" access to terminate a childs life is ridiculous. The doctor in Kansas who does late term abortions, right up til a few days before birth is a murderer. To claim that a woman has a right to kill a child because she is "depressed" is wrong. I believe abortion should only be allowed during the first trimester

Yes, hello I am a poor republicain. Republicians believe in a lot more than just that one subject. I have been a repiblician since high school when one day I raised my hand and asked my teacher "Whats the difference between a Republician and a Democrat?"
This is how he explained it to me.
You have 2 Men on a beach. Between the two is a huge rock. Let the Rock represent what you want it to, welfare, social security, ect...I could go on forever with policies, programs, or beliefs.
You find yourself 100 yds out in the water and your drownding.
A Republician will tie a 50 yd rope to the rock, and make you swim halfway.
A Democrat will throw you the 100 yds you need, but not tie it to anything.
Not all Republicains believe in the exact same beliefs as another Republician, nor do Democrats.
I BELIEVE I'll help those who want and will try to help themselfs, another Republican may not agree with that.

There is an equal argument as to why anyone would support a Democrat. A lot of the Republican platform is good for the country, as is a lot of the Democratic platform. The fact is, the Republicans have been in power too long. Any time a political party stays in power too long, they lose sight of their core beliefs.
Now it's the Democrats turn. I hope they serve us well.

im not rich but I know business. your assumptions are wrong. Id go into it but you obviously have your mind made up so it would be pointless. I would suggest you take a couple more economics classes. the main difference is you have to work to get money. not sit at home watching the feeding lawyers telling you the next big way to make money without working. How can you vote for a democrat? you want your money going to someone that cant keep their pants on and keep popping out kids but refuse to work?

Well, let's see...when Democrats last had control of the White House and both houses of Congress, they raised my taxes. When Republicans had this control, my taxes went down.

There's just one reason right off the top of my head. Not saying that one party should be completely in control of the executive and legislative branches, mind you.

Because alot of the democratics are only interested in policies to raise everyone's taxes to support larger government programs which we may not even need.

There has always been class envy, and I think I detect it here in your question. Fact is, MOST Americans work for employers...Fact is, tax breaks allow employers to expand their business investments, thus allowing for more employment. If it works, then why worry? What if YOU were the one running a business? Wouldn't you like breaks so you could grow you business as well as grow the economy?

Your premise is wrong, so your conclusion is pitiful.
If you worked for a living, you'd enjoyed Bush's tax cuts and had more take-home pay.
You people who don't work always want more taxes on us working people.

(Don't forget, there's not a Democrat in Congress that's not Super Rich.)
