You can choose to be a blond, you can choose to be an axe murderer, you cannot choose to be gay, bi, or feel like a girl when you're born a guy. I really doubt that every gayish person is such a drama queen that they need to make thier lives harder than life already is. I mean can you imagine a straight guy being a bottom? lol
As far as genetics go, I don't care how many people say that gay is genetic, being gay is not like being bipolar - that's completely insane to me that people feel like there's this deformed gay gene that gets passed down. Does it skip every other generation like twins do or something?
I am bi, been bi all my life, always known it... I didn't choose to like guys and girls because I was desperate for a date. I AM bi because I go for the heart... it's not a mood thing. I doubt there's really people out there that are like "Hmmmmm, I feel like fish tonight."

first off, you're asking with the assumption that the ideal is hetero white male. if that were the case choosing to be woman or another race would be the wrong one as well as gay. also you're assuming every gay person experiences hatred and pain because of their sexuality. neither of these points are proven or provable.
as far as being genetic it's a natural population control. a simple matter of natures checks and balances to counter the out of control procreating going on. many species have instinctive methods for not overcrowding the land off which they live. plants also have natural selection. it only follows that the plan would include homosapiens.
i think no we won't see homosexuals decline in number except that maybe the entire human race declines in number and then it will be ratios necessary to keep the balance .

This is what is known in psychological circles as a nature/nurture debate.
Genetics, enviromental factors, family circumstances could all have a factor, however this is just the 'recipe' - that could make many different traits in a persons life/personality. Not just being gay.
As a lesbian I have never met anyone who chose to be gay. You don't just wake up one morning and go gay! I was born gay of that I am sure - and to a certain extent I think many people are - if they do not 'come out' till much later in their lives this is not a choice to change sexuality but more a choice to no longer deny what they truly are, always felt and (probably)acknowledged inside. It's the desire to be seen as normal that for some becomes more powerful than being true to yourself. (Even though psychologically/emotionally this lying, wearing a mask and hiding who you are is worse in the long term mental health wise.)
I think it is a combination of factors that lead to (a positive) gay sexuality as a combination of factors creates (a positive) heterosexual sexuality. And it's not a question that can be conclusively answered - that is why the topic of being gay/sexuality in general is such an interesting one.

I must say that I do not have anyone in my family of older generations gay, and therefore i can't have inherited this certain "gene". I do have to admit that I chose to be gay, not because of the slagging and the other crap that comes along with it, but it's because I was:
i) more intrigued by it
ii) it made me happy
iii) i feel more comfortable
There's a simple way I can explain it... some people like one flavour of ice cream, others may like another. It's all about preference... that is what people like. Personally, I believe that we are not born into a sexuality, but rather have it thrusted upon us. I mean it's expected that we're to be straight, have kids and that's that... but what about the road less taken? and I can honestly say that I can hold my head up high and say I am proud and happy to be who I am... after all it's just a preference... different flavours of ice cream.

Well I'm a gay man and every gay person I know has 2 straight parents. So if the gay gene exists it must be passed on from straight parents not gay parents. What I have seen as a trend is gays tend to have gay siblings or gay first cousins. I for instance have both a gay sibling and several gay first cousins.
And I beg to differ with regards to gay men procreate later in life. All the gay fathers I know had children early in life while married to women before they discovered what their sexual orientation truly was.
I think you need to re-survey this population.

I am a gay guy and i do not believe it is a choice...but i also do not believe it is genetic, i think that there are situations when a child is growing up that makes them more inclined to be gay, and once it has developed its there to stay...i have tried many times to be straight and just be normal like everyone else...and believe me it does not work at all...never does, never will...i am gay and proud and no matter how i got here wether it be genetic, developed, or choice, i am glad im here and standing up for what i believe in.

The Boy Scouts do not have an official 'don't ask, don't tell' policy- that is an unsanctioned practice by some leaders. If you ask or tell heterosexuals to not show public displays of affection [PDAs] (around kids, in a workplace, etc.), it is not denying who they are or taking away a right, so it cannot be a problem to ask homosexuals the same thing in the same conditions. Many people are uncomfortable with PDAs period, and since humans don't die if they cannot do them, it is not quite like asking a butterfly to walk.

In my own opinion, the majority of gay people are simply born with a orientation toward their own sex. Be it in the brain, in the genes, it's still natural for them. HOWEVER...I do believe that there are those who choose this lifestyle for "whatever" reason. Perhaps they were abused, or were curious; perhaps they simply don't relate emotionally to the opposite sex or they can get more sex or the act they desire from those of their own sex. At any rate I would estimate 90% born gay; 10% choosing gay lifestyle. I'm with you on the hatred and pain this inflicts. But alot of gay people bring this on themselves because it's the basis of their whole lifestyle. I'm straight and I don't say..."hello, my name is Joe Blow and I'm straight"..but I have had the experience that most gay people will want to clear that fact up right away. It doesn't matter to me one way or another. God didn't make any junk....Godloveya all !

Maybe the gene skips a generation, maybe the gene is carried through the mother, ther eare a number of gays and lesbians that at first attempt to have a 'normal life' and therefore do marry and procreate.....lots and lots of possibilities to answer your question.

I believe sexuality forms as a result of both environment and genetics. It doesn't seem logical to me that only one would be responsible. Also don't forget that genetics isn't just about reproducing it's about preservation of a species. Some factors exist to limit our reproduction in order to prevent us from overpopulating and using up all of our resources.
