I've known people to have acupuncture, but not for IBS. the best way to get rid of IBS is to give up wheat. Try it and see ;-)

I'm sure in some cases acupuncture will help clear up IBS. Like everything else it is about finding something that works for you.

It also depends on what has triggered the IBS. I experience this condition and in my case I'm pretty sure anxiety is the trigger. Food allergies could be another trigger - particular wheat or dairy, if you want to experiment in cutting out certain foods.

I find that certain dietary inclusions/exclusions can be helpful, as can herbal teas such as fennel and peppermint and chamomile amongst a host of others.

A few of the other answerers mentioned wheat and gluten. I definitely agree. My IBS symptoms that I suffered with for 18 years ended up being gluten intolerance (celiac disease).

Take a look at this information page on celiac by the National Institutes of Health for more information -- http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac/

If that starts ringing any bells here are some message boards for people with celiac disease or other forms of gluten intolerance --

Hope you feel better soon.
