Parents do not enforce respect anymore. Children should be free to express their feelings but should do it with respect for the person who cares for them and their elders in general.
That would greatly improve society also.

Scathing comments and sarcasm are signs of despair and weakness. A parent's role can be very positive and admired, even though children sometimes get the urge to rebel and act nastly. Teenagers are particularly tough to handle since they are difficult to figure out and seem to enjoy breaking rules all the time, but they should be treated with respect all the time. Nasty comments don't really help.

scathing comments and sarcasm are a means of covering up one's insecurity because of their inability to have a relationship. It deepens the hurt because its not honest.
