Which part of the United States or Canada do you want to sound like, Dear?

The United States has several regional accents - from the "Pahk youah cah in the yahd" (Park your car in the yard) of the Northeast, to the "Ya'll come on back here now, ya heah, sugah!" of the South... and some variations in between and around. The differences can be as pronounced as the differences between Scots islanders and downtown Londoners.

My best advice would be that you listen to Americans from the area you are supposed to be when they are talking - and pick up on the linguistic quirks, as well as the pronouncing differences from your UK English. (Bonnet = hood, Lift = Elevator, stuff like that)

Do an American southern accent, it is easier for the British to do.

haha funny, but no. if you want to speak like Americans you have to listen to Americans and try to imitate them. you won't be able to sound totally American but you will sound very close.
good luck.
