If you're older than twelve, and one or another parent has custody, you're allowed to choose which parent you'd rather live with, presuming that's what they want. Other than that, Child Services is really the only way.

We once had temporary custody of our son's 11-year-old friend, whose mother beat him and was bi-polar and off her meds. DSS (Dept. of Social Services) placed him in our custody for about a week (he refused to leave our house w/his mother) and he was then sent to foster care until the mom went to court and got him back, only to abuse him again.

If you DID find a kind neighbor or relative who would be willing to act as a foster parent, that's safer than running away.

You don't say what's going on that makes you want to leave. Is it so bad that it couldn't be helped with family counseling, even if the court had to order it?

If it IS really bad (you're in physical danger), you should get immediate help from the police and Child Services!

Good luck!

Gee....it would be helpful if you are seeking information because you are under 18 or or some other reason.

Because based solely on what you provide in your question you can actually get married. Assuming of course that your age is not an issue.

You could either get your parents' permission or get married (which usually emancipates you automatically anyway).

IS IT THAT BAD WHERE YOU LIVE ? YOU SHOULD REALLY WAIT TIL YOU COME OF AGE. BUT IF IT IS UNBEARABLE THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS GO TO CHILDRENS SERVICES. THE COUNTY YOU LIVE IN HAS SERVICES FOR CHILDREN IN TROUBLE OR THEY SHOULD HAVE PROGRAMS TO KEEP YOU OUT OF TROUBLE. GOOD LUCK
