I started my period when i was 11 im 17 now so i understand how you are feeling!!
Don't worry you will probably get some form of a tummy pain that feels a bit like cramp and then when you go to the toilet you may start your period.
It will be a darkish red maybe even brown coloured but a light red is still alright. Dont be afraid of it when you do start it means your body is healthy and working alright.
Please do try and talk to your mum or a person you feel you can trust.
Hope everything turns out alright!!

To be honest, it's gonna take you by surprise - no matter how hard you try to catch it out, it will catch you first! Some signs that you are on your way to starting your periods are, obviously, the development of adolescent features such as pubic hair and breasts.

It's also generally thought that girls begin menstruating about a year after they start to get hair 'down there', but this isn't the case with every teenage girl - it's different for everyone.

Sometimes you may find a whitish stain in your knickers or feel a sticky sensation down below. This is normal fluid or discharge that keeps the vagina clean and healthy, and is a sign that your body is maturing properly and getting ready to give you a period.

However, nobody can say how long you'll experience the discharge before you start your periods - I remember having it for at least two years before I started mine. It can help to look out for changes in the colour of the stain on your pants, as just before you begin bleeding, it is often coloured slightly pink or brown. This could help you be prepared for full on flow! You'll probably have a lower back or stomach ache, feel a bit pissed off and get a few spots too.

The only thing to do is wait and when it happens (which it will), just go with the flow, so to speak. Good luck.

That's too bad that your mom isn't home much.
Mine started Thanksgiving day when I was 12. I don't remember any pain, and my first few were very light. I hope it's the same for you, I think it is for most people.
For me, my hands get a little puffy and my pants are a bit tighter (water retention, it goes away, don't worry), I start craving chocolate or other sweet stuff, and I might get a bit of acne.
I get cramps a little before and on the first day. Cramps are your body pushing that fluid out of you. They're normal.
When you do get it, it's best to get something natural... try the feminine hygeine items from Seventh Generation. They have no chlorine and are very safe, especially if you have sensitive skin at all.
Hope this helps, honey!

Honey, you are kind of older than most girls are when they get their periods for the first time. Most of the women in my family first got their's while they were sleeping and at the age of 9. I got mine at the age of 11. You feel very bad cramping. You are gassy. You feel really tired. You crave certain foods. Your pants fit a bit tighter. You also have increased discharge from your front end. It's all natural. Take Midol. That will help tremendously.

when you first start.... your periods will probobly be irregular, thats normal. some women get cramps, back pain, tender breasts, tiredness, food cravings, or moodswings right before their period. just keep track of when it starts every month, mark it on your calendar. kepp doing that for every month and if the days are the same inbetween... u can just count them out and know when it comes. but if yours are different every time... just be sure your prepared a couple days before hand... keep a pad/ tampon in your locker, wear a panty liner.. this type of stuff. some times for some women it takes over a year for their period to even out so dont be worried if they are always irregular. best of luck and hope this helped u.

well your cycle usually is about 8 days long, so if you count more or less a month from your last period you should be able to know more or less when you're going to get it, although you can never be sure exactly when, especially if you just got your period not long ago. when you're young your period is quite irregular but it will get better with time. i found the best way was that when i thought i was coming up just have a sanitary towel or tampon with you just in case

You might get some cramps or feel tired or cranky, and you also might get some acne breakouts. Other than that...when your underpants feel wet and you haven't peed.
