Is this your first time starting a venture in this industry? Have you worked at a club before? If you have no experience you should first start working in the industry. Now, if you feel you just have to start the club right away, here's the plan. Numero uno, you know this already - business plan, yup. This is what you'll need to map your business strategy. Numero dos, and this is the important one, if you've never run a club or any business before you'll need to learn quickly, and as painlessly as possible. My advice, start by contracting your DJ, light and sound equip, and advertiser. Then find a hotel, motel, or holiday inn, or a warehouse (that's right, a warehouse) find the most accommodating venue to fit your needs, then start the work. $$$ You'll need about $5k to run a good party. Sound like a lot, just wait till stuff goes wrong. Start small, you may be able to get a DJ who has all the equipment you need to throw a gig. Now it's time to negotiate. "Getting to yes" by Roger Fisher and William Ury. You have to negotiate in an industry like this. This book will be a starting point. Now it's up to you to fill in the blanks. If you're successful and feel like the party industry is for you, then follow through. If you're found in the corner crying your eyes out and calling for your mama, then apply for a liquor license and try again.
