I think that your stuff should be taking down after Christmas immediately. Others don't. I don't see anything wrong with decorations being up early but other's do.

I mean really is there a wrong way?

You know what I think? I say as long as you don't leave your lights up all year long... lol...

It'a absolutely about personal preference. I like to get started early because I like to enjoy the decorations. what's the point in all the hard work if you're just taking them all down so quickly?
But I don't think there is a rule.

It irks me to see Christmas decorations before Halloween is even over i think the day after thanksgiving is soon enough. For after News years day is the end of the holidays for us tree comes down Jan.2nd it's nice to have up on New years eve. I think decorating to early takes away some of the magic i always put our tree up with my kids on 12/10 but some like to have decors up 4-ever and it's their light bill. I personally feel it's tacky to leave decorations up and on year round unless you have a loved one in service or a child missing I know at times that's the reason people leave them up

Since I was a kid, my parents would always put up Christmas decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving...partly because we lived in Buffalo, NY and we had to beat the snow storms :0) Plus, us kids were home on school break so we could help :0) And we never took them down until the day after New Years. Unsure if that had anything to do with the snow or if it was within the lines of tradition...ya know, taking down the "old" for the "new" year.

I worked in retail for a good portion of my life and it would bug me when we would just get done with Christmas and we had Valentine's Day deco come to the store for stocking and even before that holiday started, we would get Easter stuff and were told to start stocking it as soon as the Valentine's stuff sold down. More times than not, my shelves and walls would be covered in Easter stuff before Valentine's even rolled around. Drove me insane :0)

I'm sure there's some guidelines to "deco-etiquette" time frames but like one of the other answers you got, I agree, do what makes you happy...it's your home and if your neighbors don't like it, they can walk around the block the other way to get to their house and close their blinds hahahaha
Happy Holidays :0)

I figure you should put up your x-mas lights in nice weather... to avoid the hassle later. I figure you should turn them on at the start of December and shut them off 2 weeks after Christmas. You don't have to take them down just disconect them to save yourself from being the tacky redneck with lights on in March.

I say Thanksgiving to New Years. I mean come on, my neighbors already have that stuff up. Give it some time.

Yes, there is a wrong way, and that is to celebrate the miserable event at all.
