I would like to get opinions of what people like to have in dance clubs. We play top 40 hip hop dance mostly and throw in a little "up beat" country from time to time. Are pool tables must haves? Any ideas? Also what really turns people away from them.

What I want to do is revamp a club that is currently open. It's been open for 5 years and I think it needs a few changes. So my reason for asking was to get input on what people like in dance clubs. Currently we are strickly a dance club with no real places to go and "lounge" only tables and chairs. The club does really good but I hope to have it doing GREAT. So with that, what are some of the things that make up great clubs for everyone out there other than the obvious things like music and the bar. Help me out here. I like the idea that was put in here with a more quiet place to go and sit where there maybe 10 people rather than 100 in one guys words. Any other suggestions?

Must haves? Music (play the same style all night--changing it up makes it certain you'll play something I don't like. If I come on house music night and it isn't my thing--I'll deal with it, that's not nearly as annoying as having a bad song come on in the middle of a bunch of good ones).

Dark corners-couches-patio, etc.--there has to be someplace in the club to take a woman that is semi-private (like, you can only be seen by ten people instead of 100).

Pool tables, etc--this depends on the atmosphere you are going for. A dance club doesn't need these at all, but if you are open in daytime and have the space, why not? If you people ready to dance lined up outside, don't take up enough space for 30 dancers so two people can play pool.

I don't think it's necessary for a dance club to have pool tables. But if pool tables are a must, they should definetely be sectioned away from the dance floor. I've been to a dance club that had pool tables and it looked too cluttered and had too much going on. My biggest turn off at a club is when the DJ starts to play music that no one knows. Every leaves the dance floor until a more popular hit comes on.
