Mineral oil or baby oil are best. Vegetable oil tends to get sticky instead of slick.

You would be better off buying real lube if you use condoms because the oil-based stuff everyone is recommending can make condoms break.
If you use some different type of birth control, look for something around the house that is slippery and either water- or oil-based (it will be the first ingredient), but nothing with sugar in it because that can give you a nasty yeast infection. Sugar is often disguised in the ingredient lists (e.g., sorbitol, mannitol, etc.), so be careful.
Another good rule of thumb is that if it makes your skin tingle (think Vaporub or Bengay), it will be a Very Bad Choice as a lubricant because it will burn like crazy once it touches the mucous membranes. You might want to try anything out on the inside of your nostrils first since they're an easily-accessible mucous membrane.

I know you do not want a store bought lubricant but Astroglide is the best, most natural and lasts a really long time. Spit is good if you do not want to go to the store, and it is free.

If you can't get out to a store and get something like K.Y. try using Baby Oil. It's not harmful to you or your partner. If you're using condoms, however, try waiting til you can get something from the store.

Well if your not using a condom than Vasoline works otherwise it will break down the rubber and cause breakage. Ummm, I don't know what else you could use. KY jelly isn't harmful to the condom or you but of course its store bought.

Be VERY careful using anything not specifically meant to be a lubricant. You can give yourself a serious infection (yeast infection, UTI) using anything not meant to be used in that way. A real lubricant is worth every penny.
