This all boils down to the size of the SRB (Solid Rocket Booster). If you’re talking about one that is used by model enthusiasts, NO. If your talking about a larger scale then yes. The JATO that is mentioned in Myth busters is not a true SRB. It’s mostly Oxygen hydrogen mix booster used to give a little extra boost. They normally only produce 1000 Ft-LB's of thrust. When you get in to the solid fuel, the fuel burns hotter, longer and has more push. A JATO type rocket would produce around 3000 to 5000 FT-lbs of thrust. Now what year of impala are you talking about? The older impalas weigh a lot more then the new impalas. Your question could really go either way. Now if you put one of the SRB's from the shuttle on it the weight alone would crush the car. Hope this gives you the information you need.

If it's powerful enough. The space shuttle uses solid fuel rockets as boosters to help get it's million+ lbs into orbit.

no, mythbusters did one of their original episods on this topic where they straps a JATO rocket to , I believe, a chevey impala and it did not take off. It did, however propel the vehical to a much highter speed

Right from pilot 1 of Myhtbusters.

This urban legond has been around for a long time.

They tried it. The car didn't become airborne.

Even though, I believe if you can get enough thrust, you can make anything fly.

i think if you look back over the last 2 month's newspapers, you'll find that some dip tried it in the Calif. desert. i don't think they found much of him but the car went for another 2 miles. i remember reading it.

Yes. You would need to have an ideal design for the aerodynamics to help with the flight.
