I want to know why we place such emphases on this day and what impact it plays in the long term.

It is the day we are born....so we celebrate that fact. However I think we should send our mothers flowers or something for their participation in the event!

It's the only day of the year that is truely MY DAY! Nobody can take birthdays away from me. I will always have a birthday, even when I'm dead and gone. It gives me an excuse to be bratty and unreasonable and request gifts that I wouldn't otherwise get. It also gives me a reason to cuss out my husband if (and when) he forgets my birthday. It also gives me a reason to party. The long term impact of birthdays are age, maturity, and death.

I love birthdays! Mine is on the 11th of December!

It's simply a celebration that you are one year older. It's a rejoicing that you lived another year, and an opportunity to be wished another healthy year. Of course, you don't have to have a big birthday celebration. My family will just exchange cards most the time.
