Okay, I tried for 10 years to have a baby. I have thyroid disorder, and a couple of uterine complications, as it turns out. I ended up pregnant very much by surprise...I am estimated to be 14 weeks on Wednesday. Here is where I am confused though....It is said by doctor that baby was conceived in August...Here is the basic facts about August for me....I only had sex on two days in August, on Aug 4th and Aug 21. I had a strange, early period on Aug 9 that only lasted for 3 days. (Normal for me is 7 days). I have been told possibly conceived baby on the 4th not the 21st, as would be more likely. How does this work? How is this possible? What would be the chances baby was conceived prior to the early period? And what is the accuracy that the doctor could possibly know for sure? Have had two ultrasounds, and they still question it...Any way to know for certain?

it could be either.....the small period you had on the 9th could have been a conception show....it would depend on whether you had a normal flow or if it was just heavy spotting.....at the end of the day your baby is developing and at your upcoming ultrasounds normally at 12 and 20 weeks they will look at the size of bubs and determine a due date......dont stress to much as to when bubs was conceived the due date is whats important....congratulations

the closer you get to you due date the better they will know, you can have a period while pregnant but it is rare. the doctor goes by two things when figuring out due date date off last peroid put into one of those circle calender wheels and also heart beat. a baby has a heart beat at around 8-10 weeks into pregnancy since you are past that check out the book week by week pregnancy (remembering that everything is an average) and the next time you go in for an ultrasound see is what the book says you sould be able to see at the week your doctor says you are at is there if it isn't ask why? you doctor canbe off by as much as 10 days!

The odds are that the sex on the 21st lead to conception. Dating a pregnancy can be very tricky but generally an ultrasound is accurate withina few days.

Conception happens during ovulation which occurs 14dys after menstration. Doctors usually give you an approx. date but you can estimate the right date of conception from a bloodtest which tests the levels of hormone secreted by the fetus.
