it was a male singer...slow tempo...something about the wreck of a boat, several seconds pause between lines. "fellas its been nice to know you" and the captain sent in an sos saying "we're in distress" after the hull started taking in water

The song is called "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordan Lighfoot. Its about a shipwreck that happened on Lake Superior. I think the wreck happened off of Whitefish Point.
