As long as the baby has a valid medical reason to be on Alimentum and the baby is doing well on Alimentum then their should not be a reason to switch from Alimentum to Nutramigen.
Your friend really needs to contact the nutritionist at the WIC office if she has any questions or concerns about formula. The nutritionist will be able to explain what your friend needs to do in order to obtain a prescription for alimentum and how WIC in her state will honor the doctor's request.
For a specialized formula, such as alimentum your friend will probably need a prescription that includes a diagnosis explaining why the baby needs the formula and a length of issuance or how long the doctor wants the baby on the formula.
To answer your question, Nutramigen is Enfamil's equivalent to alimentum.
I hope this helps and good luck to your friend.

Tell your friend to get a prescription from her doctor and WIC should give it to her even if they dont do similac anymore. Our WIC office uses Good Start but I got a prescrption for my daughter for simlac and they let me have it.
If not have her try Nutramigen by Enfamil, it has the same properties as the almimentum with a protein issuue because of cow milk based formulas. My nephew was on it and he had to have a prescription for WIC too because they dont do the "special" formulas in any brand

Enfamil makes a similar product called Nutragem (sp) might be a little better than the Similac on the tummy. My little one is on WIC and they offer Similac. I have to have a special RX for it. My doctor just fills it out for 3 months at a time.

I believe they do, if you are asking because she gets WIC and they changed this month from similac to enfamil, all she need is a doctors note saying that your child still needs the alimentum. Take that to WIC and they will fix the coupons for you. If she tries and take a note to the store with WIC coupons they can not give it to her because the coupon does not state it, so take everything to WIC first.

Nope that that im aware of.... i cannot belive WIC no longer uses it. Thats crazy its still listed on my WIC papers. Im going to ask and find that one out. But when my son was little the only thing that would work for him was the similac alimentum and if nothing else. Tell her to get a note from her dr saying that its the formula he needs to be on, and usually WIC will make exceptions. When my son was born i asked about a "Cheaper" similar formula and was told there wasnt one....GOODLUCK!!!

WOW! I can't believe WIC isn't going to offer Similac products any more since almost all hospitals put babies on Similac in the hospital.

Enfamil is better. Even it comes way bigger. There is also for 12 months.
