You can go to any bank, but they usually will charge a fee. Many banks will still cash a check without a fee if the check is drawn from their bank, so whose bank is the check drawn from?

You have a couple options:
You would need to go to the bank the check was written from. If the check was a Bank of America check, you wouold need to go to a local Bank of America (and bringing proper ID) and cash the check.
If it is not from a local bank, you would need to find someone with a bank account and sign it over to them (you sign your name and then under it sign "Pay to the Order of THIER NAME". As long as they have enough in their account, the bank will allow them to cash it and they can give you the money. If they don't have enough, the bank will hold the check until it clears (typically about 2-3 days) before they are allowed to withdraw the money. So, if you have to do it this way, do it with someone you trust 110%

You have to go to either the bank it is drawn on (the bank listed on the check) or to a check cashing store. A random bank will not cash it for you as they have nothing to gain and everything to lose by doing a transaction without any customers of their bank being involved.

If someone has given you a check, go to the bank on which the check is drawn (the person/business' bank); you should be able to cash the check there after showing proper identification.

Go to the bank that is on the check. They will usually cash their own checks.
