The drainage hose is about five inches down the waste water pipe. When the machine starts to spin the waste water comes out with such force that it spashes out of the top of the waste water pipe. What can I do to stop it happening?

We had this too and our plummer raised the height of the pipes/hoses. I don't remember exactly how and I cannot picture it right now, but if it's not the filter, you need (someone) to do this.

I wish we had know this before because for awhile, we didn't notice the splashing and had thought it was our old washer, leaking water. We replaced it and when they hooked up the new one, we discovered the hose splashing was the reason for water on the floor.

Duh'oh!

the drain pipe in the rear of the washer is to be about even with the top of the washer; the pipe is to be 1 1/2-2" pipe and then there should be a trap down at the btm of the drain pipe. if there is, check it and see if there is a toy or something in it hindering the water from passing.
if you have a snake or hose place it down there and try to blow through to remove the stoppage.
remember, the drain line has to be larger than the washers line or else the pressure will drive it back up the drain pipe

I have had a couple bad experiences over time and whenever i move somewhere new and hook up my hose, first thing I do is put duct tape over the entire opening this not only stops the back splash but you don't have to worry about the hose accidentally coming out and causing water damage.

Is this something that has just started? Have you been using this machine for years? This may be a partial block in your pipes, caused by detergent grease. Go to Asda/Walmart/ Tesco and get a bag of Washing Soda (55 pence UK) put the whole bag in, do a your hottest wash. This will clean your machine and all the drain pipework in one go.

I would tip some bleach down the drain pipe to clear any blockage and then use Duct tape to seal the gap between washer pipe and drain pipe

Your drain or hose has a clog. Disconnect the hose and see if lint is clogging the house. Check the drain to see if lint is clogging the drain. This should fix your problem.

The first thing to do when washing machines go wrong, is to clean the filter! It's really easy to do and may save you an expensive plumber.
