I live in Michigan, and the salaries, duties, educational levels in my area.

CNA, certified nursing assistant- education level- HS or GED with a 6 week course in nursing assistant. Duties include: direct patient care such as bathing, transferring patients from bed to chairs/ wheelchairs, walking patients, dressing, assisting with feeding patients, emptying catheter bags/ urinals. works under the license of the LPN or the RN. Wages vary from institution to institution, $6.00 to $10.00 per hour.

LPN, licensed practical nurse. Education level, 1 year of college in nursing at a jr college. Duties include: everything the CNA does, plus the added responsiblity of passing oral medications, checking blood sugars, putting in foley catheters, removing foley catheters. Works under the license of a RN.Wages vary, $ 10.00 to $18.00 per hour.

RN, registered nurse. Education level can be a 2 year ADA degree from a Jr college, or a BSN from a 4 yr college( but it takes 5 yrs to complete). The RN does the duties of the other two, with added responsibility of having to monitor and manage anyone working under their license. They do most of the paper work/ which there is a ton of, they put in /remove/ manage IV's/ PICC lines, wound care/ dressing changes, review labs, consult with Dr's and other staff members, just to name a few things. Wages vary too, $15.00 to $45.00 an hour. If you work in ICU or other specialized fields the pay is at the high end.
Remember, that it takes about 2 to 3 yrs of college prerequesites to get in to the nursing classes. You need advanced math classes, chemistry, biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology before you can enter the nursing programs.
You can further your career by getting an advance degree like a nurse practioner, nurse anesthist, midwife, and many more others are available too.You could also go into traveling nursing, where you travel outside of our area, they pay you more, pay for your housing, and travel expenses too. There are s many options with nursing.
The schooling is long, but it is a rewarding career. There is a nursing shortage now, and many nurses are retiringso the shortage will only get worst. There is definitely job security in nursing.

CNA= under LPNs, and RNs. you do nothing with medicine normally just help people take baths, go to the restroom, clean up after them. All of the dirty work & most places you get minimum wage.

LPN's pay is a a lot more (16-18 an hour), more responsibility, but the RN's are still in charge of ya.

RN's- are the top dogs in nursing.. they get 25-26 an hour.. call the shots..

of course the pay on all of these depends on where ya live..
