Ok, most people here think that it's too early for holiday decorations, songs, television specials, etc.

I just went to the grocery store and there was a Salvation Army bell ringer outside the front door.

Too early?

If you say no it's never too early for goodwill and charity, then how can you say it's too early for the joy that other people get out of holiday decorations, songs, television specials, etc.?

But then how can you say yes it's too early for charity and goodwill?

The bellringing starts this coming Friday at the Salvation Army here.

I don't think it's too early but you can't please everyone.

It is never too early for charity and goodwill but can't we get through one holiday before setting out the decor for the next? Those holidays that don't generate large profits get skipped. Thanksgiving is a truly American holiday but because it's not a "money maker" it doesn't get much attention.

IMO Yes, it is too early for the bell ringers and decorations but the corporations want to make as much money as possible and milk the holiday for all it's worth so they start putting up stuff as early as they can and everyone else follows suit.

Way too early for the bell ringers. Isn't it a shame that that is now a paid position? Not enough people volunteer for the Salvation Army so now they have to pay bell ringers. I think we need to get Thanksgiving out of the way. We need to give thanks for our lives before we set off spending...but that is the idea...spend. The sooner you can get people buying, the more retail sales will be. So Christmas specials start now in hopes that people will shop early, believe that they are throught shopping early only to go out at the last minute and buy more. It is all marketing. Spend now and spend later. There is no date or time for giving. Giving should alwasy be with us. It is too bad that a holiday focused on giving should be so commercial.

this is the one thing that is not to early for this place helps people all year round and they do not get alot of help through out the rest of the year when the needy need them. they are trying to keep themselfs going to help those who need them. If you can think of a fun spring or fall way for them to earn money, canned goods and other things they need like an annual carnival/bazaar then maybe you are the talent they need to help them out. it does not hurt top look into ways they could use you other tyhen for money
