is the new halo book about halo 3 or halo 2.5?

i am reading it and so far there has only been a couple of chapters with master chief in it

the book is called ghosts of onyx

Ghosts of Onyx is a Halo 2.5 novel. They certainly wouldn't release a novel about 3 before 3 was actually released. Bungie is VERY careful about spoilers. As Bungie put it, it ends right where Halo 3 starts.

I haven't read it yet, but if the timeline is confusing, it might be affected by that time displacement artifact found on planet Reach in the Halo novel "First Strike"
