Snoring CAN be related to weight gain, but many slender people snore as well. There may be a genetic component.
Snoring can be a symptom of a very serious disorder called sleep apnea, which can, if untreated, lead to heart damage and even death.
If you snore softly once in a while, then this is probably not apnea, but if you shake the house, snore like a bear, and drive your spouse to the guest bedroom, then apnea is a distinct probability. Sounds like your husband is in the second group, so he needs medical help, not poking, smothering, or kicking!
Apnea is usually treated with the use of a device called a CPAP. He can't just buy one of these - they are sold only on prescription, as the pressure needs to be adjusted to his individual needs, with too high pressure being as dangerous as too low. CPAP stops snoring 100% and usually makes the patient feel generally more energetic and alert during the day as well.
Please get him to ask his doctor to refer him to a sleep clinic right away. They usually have a long waiting list, and it's important to get the process started ASAP.

My husband is the same way...you can hear him from the living room when he is on the couch. We have tried the nose strips, ear plugs, flipping him over like a pancake and nothing works. We sleep seperately (sad) and he is okay with that because we both get a good nights sleep. If it gets worse have him see a doctor. My husband is going to see one this month. Good luck and happy sleeping!

Your husband is probably overweight. You should bring up his snoring & your lack of sleep with your family physician. The Doctor may reccomend something called a CPAP (Constant Positive Airway Pressure) machine; a breathing device with a face mask that forces oxygen/moisture into your husband's lungs during sleep. While he may look/sound like Darth Vader with it on, it will help protect his heart/brain from possible oxygen deprivation while sleeping.

Have him go to the doctor & have a sleep study done. He may have sleep apnea. A common problem for people who snore & it can be very harmful if it's really bad. Talk with the doctor as soon as possible!

My husband and I sleep in different rooms because of his snoring. It could be a medical problem (sleep apnea), but my husband doesn't have it; he just carries some extra weight. So, until he loses it, he gets his own room (it's so loud that earplugs don't block it out).

this is sooooo sad, and i will tell you why.... cuz he doesnt' have a problem! YOU do! but he doesn't. his snoring doesn't bother him at all.
unfortuneately there aren't many remedies either. you can try breathe right nose strips, but they probably won't work. you can try having him lay on his side, not back, but that probably won't work either. you can elbow him in the ribs until you crack one, but guess what.... that probably won't work either.
talk to a doctor... maybe he can get surgery, but like i said, as far as he is concerned he doesn't have a problem, so i wonder if he would be willing to do surgery for it.....
maybe the doc knows of a majic nasal spray or something,
well good luck. anything short of seperate beds and bedrooms i do not know!

My husband was same way until he had it checked out at a sleep clinic. He suffers from sleep apnia-now on a breathing aparatus at night-no more snoring!!! He also gets a good nights rest which makes him less crabby.

Have him sleep on his side or try the nasal strips, the ones you stick on your nose to open the airways. People tend to snore louder if they are overweight.

My friend is a dentist and he makes snore guards for people....You could check with your dentist to see if your husband would be a good candidate.
Good luck!

Is he overweight? You could try those nose strips or that throat spray.
What I would truly say is get him to have a Sleep Study for Sleep Apnea.
