does that mean I can access the Internet ANYWHERE? Or can I only use it in the presence of a wireless router and/or somewhere that has Internet access?

You need an access point ,for example i got a dell inspiron E1505 with a wireless card and i bought from verizon a card to access internet from anywhere!

No. You have to be near a wireless router or anywhere with wireless internet.

You will need to be within range of a wireless access point that is not encrypted.

you have to go to a hotspot or get a card from someone like verizon so you can get access anywhere

You can only use it where there is a wireless router present...or any wireless "hotspot".
