You need a crossover cable to do so. A router would work the best though.

Make sure you have File and Print Sharing set on each computer. If you don't have a router, switch or hub you have to use a Crossover Ethernet Cable to connect the 2 directly together...or set up an Ad-Hoc wireless network between the two. You will have to set up static IP addresses for each computer also...and make sure they are on the same workgroup.

For 2 computers:
1. Use a crossover cable to connect the two machine directly to each another. Both computers must have a Network Interface Card (NIC).

as LAN is already established, so you just need to connect both computer thru Switch or Hub. thts all.
For file sharing you have to make sharebale the drives you want to share.

1) put both machines on the same workgroup
2) share a file on one machine and open up all permisions
3) turn off firewall one pc with share on it
4) browse to that pc and make a shortcut to the shared file
