Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. -- George Carlin

or

"Life is not measured
by the number of breaths we take but by
the places and moments
that take our breath away.
So begins Patricia Schultz' 1,000 Places to See Before You Die"

Personally, I think George Carlin said it first, and Ms Schultz "borrowed" it.

Originally, I'm not sure.

But I've always associated the quote with George Carlin.

Every single source that I could find on the web lists "Anonymous." [Assuming you meant "breaths" and "our," not "out".]

Many people have quoted this, like in introductory quotes in books, etc., probably also George Carlin.

I always thought it was Emerson, but most places (except for the link below) attribute it to 'anonymous'.
