Ok, I had this thing on my desk that is magnetic and had theses metal 'men' on it that were really metal clips. When my arial broke, I just clipped these dudes together and clipped them on the nub of arial sticking out.
Works great! Just thought I would share.
All the students(I teach) say it is ghetto.

if there is anything nearby that is metal it acts as an aerial but you need to rap the wire aound it for it to work you are basically extending the connection of the aerial to a new one. My advice go buy a new one

stick 1 finger in the Ariel socket and another in the mains it will light up a treat

Wrap a piece of Tin Foil or the silver wrapper from a chewing gum where it used to be and it should pick up the signal ok
