I live in Tucson. It takes about 1. 5 hours to drive to the outskirts of Phoenix if the traffic is moving normally. And regarding what someone above said about taking kids to visit "The THING", don't bother. It's a fake-looking mummy and you have to pay to see it AND it's not between Tucson and Phoenix. It's quite a distance southeast of Tucson, whereas Phoenix is north of Tucson. The best place to take your kids in Arizona is Dairy Queen!

From what part of Phoenix to what part of Tucson? Phoenix itself is 50-100 square miles these days, so if you are starting from NW Phx add another 50-miles to the 100-mile estimate. From the I-10 around Elliott in Phoenix it will take about 1.5-hours to Tucson (unless you drive slow). If you take kids, you have to stop and see The Thing, they will get a kick out of it :-)
