i have 30-50 fish and they're still coming every other week...(tropical tank) and also 7 golfish. they're calming and relaxing and make a nice conversation piece / showpiece. they take up lots of time cleaning, maintaining and tanks can cost hundreds, pumps need attention (carbon changes) and the water needs topping up every week. I have pleccies that clean but i still have to scrub decorative items (quartz stone ornaments etc) ...but i do feel i can't really bond with them and i'm pining...maybe i need a baby?

It depends on how often you are home and how much time you would like to invest in your pet.

Hardly ever home......fish: just change the water in the bowl once a week and feed it once a day

Home an average amount.....cat: scoop out the litter box and leave food and water out for him/her

Home a good deal....Dog: Needs regular attention, needs to be fed twice a day, bath every other week or once a week, needs to be taken on regular walks if you don't have a fenced in yard

Which pet do you like best? You can always pick your pet and then adjust your schedule accordingly. Good luck!

Get a cat. They are very affectionate and very easy to maintain. Food and Cat litter, thats it. They don't need baths, they don't need walks. Just a good scratch on the head and you will have a best bud for life. Keep your cat inside and get it declawed. That way your furniture will be safe, not to mention your skin. I have a dog, a cat, and two sugar gliders. My cat is by far my fav. He's just too easy. Just feed him and love him. Scoop the box every other day. Thats it!

it depends how much money and time you have.
dog= lots of money, vet bills, shots, monthly heartworm medicine, flea/tick control, quality pet food, treats/bones,training,grooming($30+), boarding when you go out of town($20+ a night) toys, teeth cleaning every year ($150+) puppies and adults need lots of attention and, especially when being potty trained they need to be let out every hour or so.dogs also need exercise and mental stimulation. too many people get dogs and either neglect them by feeding bad corn based food, let their teeth rot out of their head, covered in fleas or mats, or they just stick them in the backyard so the dog can get bored out of their mind and have behavoiral issues
cats= costs money but not nearly as much as a dog. dont require as much time as a dog, is more independent. but will get sad if you are gone all the time. still has vet bills, food, litter boxes, litter, flea control but generally less than a dog.
both cats and dogs live over ten years, some as long as twenty, so dont get a dog if you dont know if you can dedicate an provide a stable home for it all its life.
fish like betas are easy and cheap.. but they usually dont live very long, fish tanks with multiple fish can get pricey but the maintenance and overall cost is alot less than a dog. plus all you need to do is drop the food in there, you dont have to devote as much time

iv got 17 fish, its not because i dont like dogs or cats because i love them , i adore them, its just i couldnt afford to keep dogs or cats as they cost so much to feed and pet, then you have the vet fees on top, being a student thats hard at the moment.

the other reason i chose fish is because i can leave them for long periods of time and they will be ok, plus if i put a plant i with them it means i dnt have to rush back if i forget to feed them...

they can be left alone for long periods of time with out any negative side effects unlike a cat or dogs...

maybe when i finish uni il get a dog!

I have a pond full of fish, but also have cats as I am a cat breeder.
But my favourite pet is a chinchilla, had two once and they are the most amazing animals. Both parents stay and look after the babies which is not found in any other animal.

fish cause they're small don't eat a lot you don't have to walk them, but not many fish live ever long or a cat cause they're independent also their size plus with a fish or a cat most apartments will let you have them were as a dog they have to be a certain breed and size

they all have there pros and cons heres my choice

1st a dog for being so loyal and being your best friend yet they can tie you down if you work

2nd choice fish so easy to care for and you can leave them all day no fuss just say bye and drop some flakes in the bowl

3rd a cat as they are independant but not as giving as a dog

If I had to stick to dog, cat, or fish, I'd choose a dog. But, personally I'm a ferret person. Caged or not, they are the craziest little guys to watch and spend time with!!!

cat

it's a psychological relationship with a moderately sophisticated if aloof and selfish other. Just like, er... [no, i won't.]

fish second choice, but only if doing it for Art (bright shimmering colours all day, etc), and with a reeeeally cool load of expensive aquarium gear to keep the water healthy

dog only if someone else empties it for me. Yuk.

A dog.

I have owned a cat, fish and a dog. I found the dogs to be the best.
