Please tell me that.

I have Geforce 7800 GTX 512MB. Can I SLI it with
Geforce 6800 ultra? or with Geforce 7600 GT 512MB?

thanks

Supposedly, they can..a recent driver update eliminated the need
for exact same model and manufacturer type. However, physical limitations like the position of the SLI connectors can make some problems.

However, even though they "can" work together, using a less powerful card next to a powerful card effectively makes the more powerful one work at the speed of the slower one.

It should work(as long as the SLI connecters line up) but you would end up with a 7800 gtx that is behaving like a 6800 ultra in terms of speed. If the 2nd card also has less memory, then both will only use the amount on the 2nd card.

Because of this, most people tend to use the same cards, because otherwise it as though you bought a 7600 GT at the price of a 7800gtx...

If I were you, i'd hold on to the money anyways and just wait for a 8000 series card anyways. A 7800 gtx will be more than enough for current gen games and you'll want to upgrade to the new DX10 cards to take full advantage of newer games like Crysis, etc. that run on DX10. The newer cards that have now begun to appear are pretty expensive but perform about 2x better and have full hardware support of DX10 features like Geometry Shaders...

If money isn't an object then go ahead and get yourself a 8800gtx...or if it is an issue wait for the DX10 midrange cards (which should still outperform the DX9 highend).
