He could definately be saying it! He might not be able to differentiate between Dada and Mamma (or the cat), haha! But he is practising! Babies devolop at different speeds! My girl just turned a year and she used to say Mamma until she learned Dada, now that's all she says! It even sounds like she says hi dada now! So cute, have fun!

No, I wouldn't say it is your imagination, YES he most likely is saying "DA DA"! .
My daughter is 15 months old now but, she said DA DA first.
I was like
"Hey! I am around her all the time, and she says DA DA????!!!"

All kids are different but, Her pediatrician told me that it is easier for babies to form the words DA DA...sometimes sounds like "Dat" or "That". He very well could be saying Da Da to his father, or he could be saying it just because he knows how to say that word well and call everyone "da da".
My daughter is talking a lot now but when she says daddy it sounds like "Danny" or "Da-knee" and she says Mommy "Mom-meee" but really didn't start saying Mommy until about 10 months.
Congrats!! It just keeps getting better!!

7 months, yeah, he might have said da da indiscriminately. meaning, he doesn't associate that as a word for his father yet. babies this age practice "talking" and making sounds. my son (11 months) says da da, na na, ba ba, og he says what sounds like "hi" sometimes.

My baby has always made vaguely appropriate responses to questions, it is really funny.

However one constant is "Mum". First it was mum-mum-mum-mum-mum. Which basically meant "I am not happy, fix it", however through repetition it has become more specific. Now it usually means "I am unhappy and I want mom and mom only" or "Mom you are not paying attention to me". Even other people who are not as biased (people at the dog park) have commented on it. So no I do not think you are crazy and I do thin he may have said "dada" and possibly meant it. Have dada repeat it a lot.

Yep, he said DADA. It is the first sound a baby makes, which is probably why we have dad as a word in the first place. Mama will not be far behind.

Yes he did!! YEA!! Around 6-8 months most babies will start making sounds that we actually understand. It's such a great feeling when you hear their very first word!!
