That's idiotic. $1, maybe $2, unless you were trying to get into his/her pants.

No, you are tipping well. You generally tip between 15 and 20%. I charge $15 dollars for a haircut and most people tip me between $3 and $5, and I have no complaints, I am usually just happy if someone tips, you have no idea how many people out there don't.

I think you did just fine with $3 and I am a very big advocate of tipping whenever appropriate, having worked in food service industry.
I must admit I have a very hard time with the hair industry though. With what they charge for the service nowadays it is very hard to have anything left to tip with. If I get a simple cut and color it is at least $60, a cut for women where I live isn't $12, it is more like $21. Alot of hairdressers "rent" their chairs nowadays and are in business for themselves for the most part. I tip $3 for a cut and $5 when I do the whole shebang.

That's more than I have ever tipped. The last time I got my haircut, the lady wasn't friendly at all and she seemed to rush things, so she didn't get any tip from me. That was the first time that I ever left the barber shop without giving a tip.

I think that's a generous tip, but if you like the service, why not. I usually do the 15 or 20 percent thing, depending. If you go to a fancy place you have to tip the person who does the shampoo as well as the stylist.

My stylist charges 25$ a cut, but she washes, cuts and styles. I always tip a 5 to her when paying. 3 is a good tip if your total bill was only 12$. You shouldn't feel bad. It's cool!

If it was a good cut -- NEVER less than $5 -- no matter what the cost of the haircut. A salon cut should obviously have a higher tip.

it depends on if they work for someone or themselves. if they work for themselves No tip but if not 3 to 5 dollars is a good tip. Remember 20% of the cost is what you should tip.

You gave a very good tip....25% to be exact. The norm is 15-20%. I usually tip the norm unless I absolutely LOVE the cut/style.

I think 20 to 25% tip to your hairstylist is fine. It all depends on the courteous service you get. I would look for prompt service and attention to detail.
