I have watered them exactly like she asked, but it rained for two days after I watered them. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with them or not.

Lift the pot. Light = dry, aerate and water. Heavy = wet, be sure they aren't sitting in water -- tip the pot to drain excess water.

Ferns enjoy being trimmed; in fact, they will flourish with a little "haircut." Depending on where your zone is, they may have been exposed to a slight freeze. Another thing I do with ferns is shake them ever so gently and go to the bottom part of the growth and separate the stems. Over-watering usually does not affect ferns as long as they are exposed to sun. It can, however, cause the leaves to turn lighter color of green or yellow. Don't worry. They should bounce back. I live in Zone 7 and we had a recent unexpected slight freeze. Most of my plants have bounced back. If you know you are going to have a freeze, bring the fern inside for protection. Also, water your own plants heavily before a freeze. This protects them, believe it or not.

Are you watching them at your house or hers. If there turning yellow that means your watering them to much. Pick the yellow leaves off for her as well.
